If you are in the position to only buy one disc as a beginner, we think you should start with a mid-range. With disc speeds between 4-6 (most commonly 5), mid-range discs are ideal for the beginner. They feature a dull, beveled edge and a moderate rim width making it initially more comfortable in the hand. Offering more control than drivers, they also require less speed to carry further distances than putters and approach discs. While not normally recommended, they can be used as a putter in a pinch. Mid range discs are an essential tool for various shots so they maintain a long life in every player’s bag no matter what skill level they achieve.
